Purpose, services and institutional information
The Korea Ginseng & Herb Clinical Research Institute (KGHCRI) is a research organisation that conducts clinical research to establish, in human subjects, the functional effects of ginseng, red ginseng and medicinal plants.
Purpose
- To design and conduct human trials and clinical trials on ginseng, red ginseng, medicinal plants and functional food ingredients.
- To analyse the results statistically and complete them as research reports and papers in SCIE-indexed journals.
- To support companies and institutions in assembling dossiers for functional ingredient approval and in carrying out research projects.
- To publish, on an ongoing basis, books setting out research findings on ginseng, herbs and plant-based nutrition.

Standing and limits
The institute is not a medical institution. We do not provide consultation, prescription, or the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Our work is confined to collecting, analysing and reporting data in accordance with a previously approved protocol.
All research involving human subjects is carried out only after review and approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Informed consent, protection of personal data and adverse event reporting follow the approved procedures.
Cell studies, animal studies and quantification of marker compounds (HPLC and similar) are carried out with partner organisations that hold the necessary facilities; the institute is responsible for design, interpretation and documentation. See Partner institutions for details.
